Year 7 & 8 OFFERING
What is Gender Inequality? The Basics
TALK:
Format: 50 minute talk, 10 minute Q&A. Talks can be delivered in person or virtually.
Outcome: Enable pupils to recognise how gender stereotypes, gendered language and sexual harassment are connected together.
This talk is an introduction to what gender inequality looks like in the world today. Through looking at statistics, unpacking stereotypes and norms, and considering the ways in which inequality shows up in the media we consume, this talk demonstrates the connections between seemingly harmless attitudes and stereotypes, and sexual harassment. Pupils will be encouraged to recognise these connections and to think about how we can challenge gender inequality in our everyday life.
WORKSHOPS:
Format: 1.5 hours. Up to 30 pupils per workshop
This talk can be followed up with one of our highly interactive, in person workshops. These are designed to build on the knowledge delivered during the talk, giving pupils the time and space to explore specific topics and have critical conversations about them in a structured, safe environment with our experienced and engaging facilitators.
In small groups pupils will build a 'pyramid' of gender inequality - mapping how different forms of gender inequality (such as gender stereotypes, language and attitudes towards women and girls) are related to each other and can lead to sexual harassment.
Pupils will develop an understanding of how these issues are connected.
The latter part of the workshop will focus on how pupils can start to disrupt and challenge these behaviours and attitudes as individuals and as a school community.
“Bold Voices was engaging from the word go and it was hard hitting in a way that got them thinking rather than worrying – a great skill to have. They had them listening intently to their stats, myths and journey. They were up to date, relevant and brought all the information to their level which was pitched perfectly.
Bold Voices is a must on anyone’s PSE Programme.”
