INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2024 WITH BOLD VOICES
STAFF TRAINING - MISOGYNY IN EDUCATION
Submitted by Nottingham Girls’ School
Myself and the PSHE lead delivered a whole-staff CPD session on 'Misogyny in Education'.
We explored where misogyny stems from and how schools contribute to misogyny (uniform policies, language, lack of useful RSE, contributing to shame etc).
We looked at the statistics around misogyny nationally but also within our school which since we're at an all girls' school the staff found quite shocking. The staff responded really positively to the CPD and said that it really got them thinking about how they can help tackle misogyny in the classroom and beyond.
WHAT WAS OUR IMPACT?
”As previously mentioned, the staff responded really positively about their own behaviour and the behaviour of others that they are reluctant to challenge but helps contribute to misogyny.”
WHAT DID WE LEARN?
“That no-one is to blame for misogyny and that by recognising how we ALL may contribute in one way or another is the only way to effectively tackle it.”
WHAT WOULD WE DO DIFFERENTLY NEXT TIME?
“Maybe allow for some staff discussion and get staff involved to make it more interactive and less lecture-style.”
