On International Women’s Day, we always like to take the opportunity to say thank you to our incredible community of students, educators, schools and many more for everything they do in supporting Bold Voices and our work.

This year, we wanted to feature our postcard on our website for you all, highlighting the sources of key statistics and testimonies from students participating in our workshops that have stood out over the past year. Scroll to read these in full.

 

STATISTICS & SOURCES

Sexual offences recorded by the police were at the highest level recorded within a 12-month period, 196,889 offences, in the year ending June 2022. ONS 2022

44% of men in the UK have never opened up to someone about how they are feeling. Nivea Men X Talk Club 2022

At least 141 women were killed by men in the UK in 2021 (or where a man is the principal suspect). EVAWG 2021/22

Four out of five, 79%, of those surveyed have seen pornography involving violence by the age of 18. Guardian 2023

FTSE 350 largest companies listed on the London Stock Exchange showed 96% of CEOs as men. SOURCE

People with disabilities are more likely to have a sexual image shared without permission. SOURCE

Black and minoritised victims of domestic homocide are less likely to be previously known to the police and other agencies than white victims. EVAWG 2021/22

Over 1,600 cases of alleged sexual offences and domestic abuse involving its Met police staff are being reviewed. SKY 2023

Nearly 1/2 of 16-21 year-olds surveyed assumed girls either “expect” or “enjoy” sex which involves physical aggression, such as airway restriction. Guardian 2023

91% of LGBT+ students have heard negative language about their identity in the past year. JUST LIKE US 2021

“I think the women belong to the man.” Videos by Andrew Tate have been seen on TikTok more than 13 billion times. LBC

Police forces were 1.6x more likely to charge when the victim or survivor was white than when they were Asian, and 1.5x more likely when the victim or survivor was Black. EVAWG 2021/22
