The Bold Voices Ambassador Programme

WHAT IS IT?

Introducing the Programme

The Ambassador Programme is an online programme for a group of Year 12 & 13 students to build the knowledge and skills to run projects challenging gender inequality and gender-based violence within their school communities.

The Ambassador Programme provides a unique opportunity for participating students to develop a range of key skills beyond the core curriculum and create impact within their school.

By signing up to join this programme you will be joining schools from across the country; creating opportunities for your students, staff and parents to connect with other schools tackling these issues.

The Ambassador Programme has been enriching for both the students and staff involved. The students have not only learnt about gender inequality and gendered violence, but also the key skills needed in order to plan, produce and maintain a project within a school. The workshops for staff have been engaging and informative, with real valuable takeaways which realistically could be implemented in schools. I am excited to be a part of Bold Voices next year to see how the next cohort of students can build on the initial project this year.

Who takes part?

Student & Staff Reps

Each school nominates 6 Student Reps (Year 12 & 13*) and 2 Staff Reps, who take part in a series of online virtual sessions throughout the academic year. Student Reps receive 8 workshops and Staff Reps receive 4 across the year. These are live workshops taking place on weekday evenings from October to April (with pre-recorded videos for participants to listen again or catch up if they are unable to attend).

In addition, during the course of the year, Bold Voices hosts 2 Ambassador Programme Parent Webinars. We are able to allocate 30 spaces per school for parents to attend live, allocated on a first come, first serve basis. The recording of this event will then be available for one month to send to the whole parent body of all participating schools.

Bold Voices encourages participating schools to see this programme as ongoing; with Reps passing the baton onto a new group of participating Student Reps and Staff Reps at the start of each academic year.

*For schools without a Sixth Form we do accept Y11 pupils on the programme.

HOW DOES IT work?

Knowledge & Projects

The workshop content aims to provide a comprehensive and critical understanding of what gender inequality and gender-based violence looks like today. Student Reps will explore the continuum of gender-based violence, the importance of intersectionality, the context of consent, the role of social media and pop culture, the influence of gendered language and more.

Alongside knowledge building, Student Reps will be equipped with the skills to leverage change within their school communities. They will plan and carry out two projects over the course of the programme that will aim to raise awareness of gendered issues and create change around inequalities.
